Happiness, like every other feeling, is relative. Like the seasons of nature, it comes and goes. For some, it's the day they walk down the aisle. It's the moment the doc says some are cancer free. The old man said: Without sadness, we won't know how it feels to be happy. Life is a lever with sorrow and joy on either side. Sadness today and happiness tomorrow keep the balance of life. When you're sad, look forward to the forthcoming happiness. If you're happy, savor the moment and enjoy the feeling. It's a cycle, a rule - an unspoken one about life. Find happiness. It's also in the little things we overlook.
For a while, I didn’t understand the correlation between being happy and being sad. I mean, can’t we just be happy, this life is stressful already.
While trying to understand both feelings and the relationships between them, I realized that it could get to a point where one is used to being sad. It’s a tricky feeling because it’s a bit easier to be sad whereas happiness on the other hand might require more intentionality.
An example is this, suppose you and a couple of others invested into different business and at the end of the investment cycle, you had a 30% ROI. Life is good, you’re happy and then you ask your friends, and some had 35%, someone even had a whooping 40%, you subconsciously start comparing yourself and before you know it, you’re sad again. Two things - one, comparison is a thief of joy and two, you have to be intentional to remember that you’ve also done really well.
My favorite line in the poem is the last one that says, “Find happiness, it’s also in the little things we overlook”. It’s something I have tested and continuously use in my life to seek happiness. Another one is not worrying about things beyond my control (Anticipate the next newsletter).
Oh, and make sure you listen to Happiness by Sarz ft Asake and Gunna, it’s a good song and the video is a beautiful one directed by Edgar Esteeves. I love it, they did a good job on the theme.
We all deserve to be happy, and I hope we get more happy and beautiful memories as well sail through the oceans of life.
Till next time,
Ace.
